Pacing & geography
Mountain first, coast after
Seoraksan is the farthest and most physical stop, so it is visited first while energy is freshest. Naksansa Temple and Naksan Beach sit together on the Yangyang coast on the natural return route — no backtracking.
Mountain → temple → beach
The day moves from highest energy (Seoraksan stairs and optional cable car) to medium (Naksansa's cliff paths) to lowest (a flat hour on Naksan Beach). Photo style progresses from granite ridge to seaside temple to open coastline.
Two landscapes, one stream
The Namdaecheon Stream that meets the sea at Naksan Beach begins up in Seoraksan — the mountain and the coast on this itinerary are literally linked by water.
Why this works in 12 hours
All three stops are free to enter
Seoraksan park entrance, Naksansa Temple (free since 2023), and Naksan Beach all have no admission fee — the only optional paid item is the Seorak Cable Car (₩16,000 round-trip, own expense).
Two pickup points across Seoul
Hongik (Mapo-gu) at 07:00 and Myeongdong (Jung-gu) at 07:30 cover Seoul's two main accommodation clusters — guests choose the exit closest to their hotel.
Tight coastal cluster
Naksansa Temple and Naksan Beach are adjacent on the Yangyang coast, so the afternoon spends time at the stops rather than in transit between them.
Trade-offs honestly
Seoraksan has stairs (cable car is optional)
The Tongildaebul + Sinheungsa walk is flat and accessible; steeper trails and the Gwongeumseong platform have rocky steps. The cable car is on-site own-expense and not bookable in advance.
Departs Mondays & Thursdays only
This is a fixed-schedule coach tour with two departure days a week. Book the correct date — Monday or Thursday — when you reserve.
Long day from an early start
This is a coach group tour — about 12 hours total including ~5 hours of coach time. Guests wanting fewer hours or unlimited stop time should consider a private chartered car day trip.

How this route feels through the year.

- Both pickups share the same air-conditioned coach; please be at your chosen point 5-10 minutes early. Latecomers cannot be accommodated and are non-refundable.

- If you need a different day or a flexible schedule, consider a private chartered car day trip instead.
- Comfortable closed-toe walking shoes — Seoraksan paths are rocky in places and Naksansa has stairs and uneven stone paths.
- Warm layers October-March; Seoraksan runs 5-7°C colder than Seoul, and the East Sea breeze at Naksan Beach can be cool year-round.
- Camera or smartphone — Seoraksan's peaks, Naksansa above the sea, and the Naksan Beach coastline are the photo highlights.
- Cash and card for lunch (~₩10,000-15,000) and the optional Seorak Cable Car (₩16,000) if you plan to ride.
- Light snacks if you start without breakfast — the first food stop is around lunchtime en route to the coast.

- Light rain: the tour runs as scheduled — Naksansa and Naksan Beach both have atmosphere in rain, and Seoraksan's lower paths remain walkable with grip shoes.

- Moderate overall.

- Naksan Beach: flat, easy walking on soft sand and level pine-forest paths.
- Total walking is moderate; sturdy closed-toe shoes are recommended.

Questions
The few questions that usually decide it.
About 12 hours door-to-door from a 07:00 Hongik or 07:30 Myeongdong pickup. It returns to Seoul between approximately 18:45 (Myeongdong) and 19:15 (Hongik).
This tour departs **on Mondays and Thursdays only**. Please book a Monday or Thursday date — the itinerary and timing are the same on both days.
Two pickup points: (1) **Starbucks Hongik University Station Exit 8** (Mapo-gu) at 07:00 — the Starbucks at the top of the exit; or (2) **Myeongdong Station Exit 2** (Jung-gu) at 07:30 — the NorthFace flagship store at the top of the exit. Choose the one closest to your hotel at booking.
Drop-off is at the same two locations in reverse order: Myeongdong Exit 2 first at approximately 18:45, then Hongik University Exit 8 at approximately 19:15. Exact times depend on traffic on the day.
Yes — and in practice all three stops are free to enter. Seoraksan National Park entrance was abolished in May 2023, Naksansa Temple has been free since May 2023, and Naksan Beach has no admission fee. The **only optional paid item is the Seorak Cable Car** (₩16,000 round-trip), which is on-site ticketing only and own-expense.
It's a fantastic ridge view if the weather is clear, but tickets are NOT bookable in advance and on-site queues can exceed 1-2 hours during the October autumn-foliage peak. If skies are foggy, skip it (no view). With a 2-hour Seoraksan stop, the cable car is realistic mainly when queues are short — otherwise the Tongildaebul + Sinheungsa walk and a short Biseondae streamside path are the recommended use of the time.
Naksansa is a thousand-year Buddhist temple built directly above the East Sea, founded in 671 CE by the monk Uisang. It is one of Korea's three great Avalokitesvara (Gwaneum) sanctuaries, and its signature sight is the 16-meter white granite Haesu Gwaneum-sang statue facing the ocean. The temple was rebuilt after the April 2005 Yangyang wildfire and has been free to enter since 2023.
Naksan Beach's official swimming season is July-August only, with supervised swimming roughly 09:00-18:00. This tour runs year-round and treats the beach as a walking and photography stop, not a swim stop — there is about an hour to stroll the soft sand and pine-forest paths.
Yes, age 6 and up. The 12-hour day with an early start and ~5 hours of coach time is long for younger children — please consider age 8+ for comfort. Kids tend to enjoy the open space of Naksan Beach. Seoraksan and Naksansa both have stairs and rocky or uneven paths.
Active seniors are fine — the day's main demands are the walking circuits at Seoraksan and Naksansa, both of which have stairs and uneven surfaces. Naksan Beach is flat and easy. Mobility-limited travelers should consider a private chartered car day trip instead.
No — lunch is paid by the guest (~₩10,000-15,000 per person). The coach stops at a local restaurant en route between Seoraksan and the Yangyang coast around midday. The region is known for sanchae (mountain-vegetable) bibimbap, buckwheat dishes, and East Sea seafood near the coast. Vegetarian and halal-friendly options may be possible with advance notice.
The guide provides commentary in English and Chinese. The guide handles all menu translation and stall interactions during the day. Please note your preferred language at booking.
**Autumn (mid-October to early November)** is Korea's signature foliage season and Seoraksan's foliage is world-famous. **Spring (April)** is fresh and uncrowded. **Winter** brings snow on Seoraksan's peaks and a dramatic East Sea coast — Naksan Beach is a famous New Year sunrise spot. Book 2+ weeks ahead for October.
Light rain: the tour runs as scheduled — all three stops are walkable in rain with the right footwear. Heavy rain: the Seorak Cable Car is typically suspended (the guide pivots to a Sinheungsa-area walk); Naksansa and Naksan Beach still operate. Typhoon-level weather or expressway closure: full refund or rebooking offered.
This is a fixed-schedule coach group tour at a budget price point, departing Mondays and Thursdays. A private chartered car day trip provides door-of-hotel pickup, flexible timing and departure day, and a customizable route — better for travelers who want comfort and flexibility, or who can't travel on a Monday or Thursday.
