Why this route is built this way

Two UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites + intangible heritage in one day

Seongsan Ilchulbong and Manjanggul are World Natural Heritage sites inscribed together in 2007 as 'Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes'. Add the haenyeo diving performance, a 2016 Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and you see three layers of UNESCO heritage in a single day.

Cave first, beach last — the order is the point

Manjanggul opens at 09:00 and is emptiest in its first hour, so the route goes there directly from pickup — you walk the lava tube before the midday tour-bus wave, while the 11–13°C cool is a refreshment rather than a chill. The day then builds through Seongeup and Seongsan to the haenyeo performance, and closes at Hamdeok Beach in the soft late-afternoon light — the closest stop to Jeju City, which keeps the final transfer the shortest of the day.

The real Manjanggul — the original UNESCO lava tube, no longer a substitute

In the past we substituted Micheon Cave during closures, but now you explore Manjanggul itself — one of the world's largest lava tubes, home to the world's largest lava column at 7.6 m high.

All admissions included — the value at this price

Seongsan Ilchulbong ₩5,000 + Manjanggul ₩4,000 (Seongeup free, haenyeo diving performance free) — two World Natural Heritage sites are covered by just ₩9,000 in admissions.

Seongsan Ilchulbong is an optional climb

The roughly 30-minute round-trip climb to the crater rim is steep and not right for everyone. There is also a coastal loop path with a similar view and no stairs, so you can choose according to your fitness.

Seasonal variations

How this route feels through the year.

Spring

Rapeseed (canola) flowers on Hamdeok's Seoubong cone slopes — striking yellow against emerald sea.

Summer

Best sea colors at Hamdeok Beach; long daylight for Seongsan visit.

Autumn

Clearest visibility for Seongsan rim panoramas; Seongeup village stays photogenic year-round.

Winter

Quietest crowds; Haenyeo Museum particularly valuable in cold weather.

  • Air-conditioned mini-coach, certified English/Chinese-speaking guide, ALL attraction admissions (Seongsan Ilchulbong ₩5,000, Seongeup Folk Village free, Ilchul Land/Micheon Cave ₩12,000, Haenyeo Museum ₩1,100, Hamdeok Beach free), fuel/tolls/parking.
  • Not included: lunch (≈ ₩15,000), drinks, tips.
  • Sequential pickup at four points: Ocean Suites Jeju (08:30)
  • Jeju Airport Gate 1
  • 1F Domestic Arrivals (08:45 — note: different gate from operator's Southern tour)
  • LOTTE City Hotel Jeju (08:55)
  • Shilla Duty-Free Jeju Store (09:05).
  • Choose the closest at booking.
  • Day-before WhatsApp confirmation.
  • Moderate difficulty.
  • Manjanggul is about a 1 km flat round trip, with stairs at the cave entrance and a somewhat uneven, damp floor inside (11–13°C year-round, jacket recommended).
  • Seongeup Folk Village has dirt paths and stone walls.
  • The Seongsan Ilchulbong crater-rim climb is about 30 min of steep stone steps (can be skipped).
  • The haenyeo diving performance is viewed from the flat shore.
  • Hamdeok Beach is flat sand.
  • Closed-toe shoes required.
  • Total walking about 4–5 km.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
  • Same-day cancellations and no-shows non-refundable.
  • Heavy weather may shorten the Seongsan climb but does not cancel the day.
  • Manjanggul is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage lava tube inscribed in 2007 and is included in this route.
  • The open section is about a 1 km round trip (about 30–45 min), with the world's largest lava column at 7.6 m high at the end.
  • The interior is a cool 11–13°C year-round, so a jacket is recommended.
  • If closed for maintenance or weather, it may be substituted with a nearby lava tube (Micheon Cave at Ilchul Land) — confirm when booking.
  • Recommended for ages 10+ due to the Seongsan Ilchulbong rim climb (≈ 600 stairs, optional but the day's centerpiece) and a 9-hour pace.
  • Younger children can join, but the climb may be too much; consider our year-round Cherry Blossom or Cruise Bus tours which skip the summit.
  • Strollers are not recommended on Seongsan stairs or Seongeup village paths.

Questions

The few questions that usually decide it.

Yes. Watching the haenyeo diving performance held in the sea near Seongsan Ilchulbong is part of the route (usually in the afternoon, free). It can be canceled depending on sea and weather conditions, and if canceled we substitute the indoor Haenyeo Museum in Hado-ri to guarantee the haenyeo heritage experience.

Yes. There is a coastal loop path that offers a similar photo angle without stairs. The crater climb (about 0.8 km round trip, about 30 min) is optional, so you can decide according to your fitness.

It is a tour by the same operator. The southern tour includes a Hallasan oreum, Camellia Hill, Cheonjeyeon Falls, the columnar joints, and the Osulloc tea fields. The eastern tour focuses on Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seongeup Folk Village, Manjanggul, and the haenyeo diving performance.

Manjanggul is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage lava tube included in the route. However, on days it is closed for maintenance or weather (heavy rain, etc.), we substitute a nearby cave such as Micheon Cave at Ilchul Land, part of the same lava-tube system, to keep the cave experience.

It is not included. Lunch is separate (about ₩15,000), and the guide will recommend a good local spot.
